The Chinese VES manual has been released

There is now a Chinese VES version 1.1 dissection manual ready for download. We are very thankful for the translation and editing done by Dr. Xiaowen Huang, Tongji Medical College, Wuhan, China. We hope that this manual will make it easier for the Chinese users to get started.

This post is just to inform you that a 32 bit version is soon to be released. I am leaving for vacation the next week, and when i return the 32 bit version will be my main priority.

We are working on the last fixes on the upcoming version 1.1, and this will be available in the download section soon as well as a new manual.

Preview of the bone drilling tutorial

The next version will feature a interactive drilling tutorial, where the user follows a step by step manual and the highlighted bone indicates what should be drilled away in the current step.

Ves 1.1

We have been working on two projects, since last update. First we are soon ready to release an updated version 1.1 of the simulator. This version has been improved in several ways and will feature a complete surgical tutorial, with some simple evaluation metrics. More about this as soon as we are ready to release.

And secondly a lot of progress has been made one the VES 2.0, where we are able to show the whole data set and we are currently working on some soft tissues simulation. Here is a early screenshot of the temporal bone in VES 2.0.

Things are starting to move for the Visible Ear simulation project, the development for the next version has begun. And today we proudly present the VES dissection Manual.

This pdf manual will guide you step by step on how to use the simulator and how to perform a complete resection of the mastoid. If you read the manual on your PC you may simultaneously view the instructional videos on YouTube just by clicking the URL links in the text.

Voxel lab

We are working on a tool to create the data for the next version of our simulator. This is a important because a good voxel tool allow us to quickly make different versions of the extensive Visible Ear Data.

Oticon visit

Today we visited Oticon, and had a very nice meeting with the some guys from the Oticon medical department. Maybe they will be able to use the simulator when we develop a realistic tissue simulation.
